LIFE REFLECTION
The Beginning:
Cheryel Denise Thurman was born February 22, 1958 to the late Ressie B. and Henry Thomas Brock at Greenville Air Force Base in Greenville, Mississippi.
The Woman:
Cheryel was a woman known for her infinite warmth and unshakable faith. She accepted Christ at an early age at Red Bridge Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO. A brilliant light, she reflected the love of Christ to all who met her. Cheryel was without a doubt the most creative, generous and giving person. Her love for cooking, finding amazing bargains, and blessing her friends and family with thoughtful gifts was only surpassed by her undeniable love for her family. Cheryel was a gifted student. She graduated from Ruskin High School, Kansas City, Missouri, Class of 1976. She went on to attend Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. Cheryel’s studies were focused in the field of Apparel Merchandising and Marketing, which led her to employment at the iconic fashion flagship store Halls, owned by Hallmark Cards Inc. in Kansas City, Missouri, on the Country Club Plaza. After her move to Arlington, Texas, she was employed by the United States Post Office until her decline in health required her to shift her working endeavors to volunteering at her children’s schools. Cheryel Denise Thurman will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend. Her spirit of generosity and care will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to do life with her.
The Husband:
She met her loving and devoted husband Augustus “Gus” Raleigh Thurman, Jr. in the summer of 1978, on the campus of Texas Christian University. They were united in holy matrimony on August 11, 1984. Their beautiful love story spanned over 40 years.
The Children:
On January 13, 1988 Cheryel gave birth to her unwaveringly devoted and loving son, Christian Augustus Thurman. Three years later her steadfast, loving and kind daughter Alexis Victoria Thurman was born December 31, 1991. A loving mother, Cheryel took great joy in raising her children.
