Cherry Gay Childress, daughter of Victor E. Benton and Lillie Mae Benton, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 in Arlington, Texas.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents; her son, Robert Ray Childress; and her beloved stepmother, Falah Ethel. She is survived by her three grandchildren, Lacey Renee Childress, Brandy Nicole Childress, and Robert Scott Childress as well as her great-grandchildren, Hayden and Isaac.
Cherry was born in North Texas on August 5, 1937 and attended college in Arlington in 1952. She worked for US Steel for over 35 years and had an immense love for traveling, nature, photography, birds, flowers, reading, laughter and the New York Times crossword puzzle. She played an enormous role in raising her three grandchildren and truly was the matriarch of her family. She enjoyed grabbing a Whataburger with a Diet Coke!
Cherry was an amazing friend and a force to be reckoned with. She was loved by all who knew her and will truly be missed by many.
