Charles Richard Vavrin

Charles (Chuck) Richard Vavrin, of Arlington, Texas, died peacefully on May 20, 2021 at the age of 84. The family will have a private memorial service at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Wade Funeral Home, 4140 West Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, Texas 76013. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Shepherd of Life Lutheran Church, 715 East Lamar Boulevard, Arlington, Texas 76011. Chuck was born on November 15, 1936 in Racine, Wisconsin. He graduated from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1958, where he lettered in football and basketball. In 1962, Chuck received a medical degree from the University of Wisconsin. After receiving his medical degree, he served his country as a surgeon in the United States Army from 1962 to 1971, when he was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Colonel. Following his Army service, he served in the United States Navy Reserve until his retirement at the rank of Captain. In addition to his military service, Chuck had a successful private practice as an orthopedic surgeon at the Arlington Orthopedic Group for more than 30 years. An avid sports fan and supporter of local educational institutions, Chuck volunteered as the team physician for the University of Texas at Arlington and Grand Prairie High School football teams. Chuck married Karen Doenges on July 3, 1976 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and they had two daughters, Louise and Susan. Chuck loved the beach and enjoyed traveling with Karen, making annual trips to Cabo, Hawaii, and Ocean City, New Jersey. He also enjoyed watching movies and sports and especially loved cheering for the Dallas Cowboys. Chuck is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters, Louise (Tyler) Bexley and Susan (Jacob) Stewart; and grandsons, Hunter and Charles Bexley. Wade Family Funeral Home 817-274-9233
