Charles Davis

d. August 4, 2021

Charles "Chuck" Davis, 77, was born in Linton, IN, March 8, 1944, 3rd of 4 boys, to Hubert and Mary Davis .He passed away on August 4th, 2021, after fighting the good fight against CMML and AML as well as other ailments for several years. He met his wife, Janet Cinnamon, at Toulon high school and they married June 13, 1964. The Davis family moved from Linton, IN to Toulon, IL in 1958 with the Peabody Coal Company. Chuck's first mode of transportation there was his English Racer bicycle. Next was a Cushman Scooter and then the one and only black 1949 Ford 4-door sedan. He worked at Dutchie Frail's Gas Station after school, to earn money for cruising at night (or maybe a bit faster). Illinois State Trooper Adrian Cross always seemed to be lurking just around the next curve, ready to chase that black Ford down. Yes, Chuck did get a ticket but he was certain the trooper would've never caught him but as he "buried the needle" he blew a radiator hose. The ironic part is that Chuck did the regular service and maintenance on Trooper Cross's car at the same Dutchie's. Gas Station. On Chuck and Janet's first date, she knew he was maybe just a bit different from the other boys. He asked her to shut the car door by the handle and not make hand prints on the window. Even later in their marriage he always insisted on gassing the cars himself, so no fuel dripped on the paint. Even at his weakest, he would pick up or point out a piece of lint or dirt on the floor. And every time he was asked how he felt, his answer was ALWAYS "marvelous, never felt better." His brother, Dave always said Chuck and Janet reminded him of Danny and Sandy from the movie "Grease" except that his mother would never let Chuck get a leather jacket. Called Spuds, Taters, Charlie Potatoes by high school classmates and family, he was definitely a Type A personality and always had a routine. In fact an Arlington police officer told Chuck (after a break-in at their home) that even he knew his daily and weekly routine of mowing, washing cars, coming and going, etc. Chuck, Janet and daughter Tammy (Tamera) spent 5 years in Quincy, IL while owning Davis Furniture Company there as well as several other surrounding towns. and in Missouri. They met several wonderful long time friends there and had many happy days on the Mississippi River on his many boats named "Chucky's Ducky." More boating was ahead after they moved to Texas. Chuck and Janet were asked by dear friends to accompany them in chartering a catamaran in the British Virgin Islands, twice. What a wonderful and unexpected experience. . One winter day in Quincy with snow half way up their sliding glass doors, brother Dave and his wife Laurie, called from Texas to brag about being on the golf course that day. Needless to say, not long after that phone call Chuck moved his family to Arlington TX in May of 1979. Chuck's hobby was NASCAR, watching or attending many races. He loved Dale Earnhardt and Dale, Jr. and has a man cave and garage full of memorabilia. His biggest thrill was sneaking into the pit area at Texas World Speedway, College Station in 1993 while attending an exhibition race. Low and behold as we're walking by Dale's car hauler, out he comes. Chuck was brave enough to walk up to Dale and ask him to sign his Earnhardt Goodwrench Racing cap. Of course in his nervous voice he said to Dale "You're my biggest fan!" Chuck and Janet attended many races at TMS and other NASCAR tracks.Chuck also got to take a few laps around the track with Team Texas Racing School. What a thrill. Chuck's first job out of high school was at Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria, IL and his last was manager of Oak Hill Village, a manufactured home community in Mansfield, TX. In between he had several jobs in sales and management positions. . Our sincere thanks and love to Dr. John Adams, nurse Eva, and the entire staff at Texas Oncology Arlington North from the front door to the check in desk, the lab techs, Shirley in the insurance office to the infusion chair nurses who always made him (and me) smile. We'd also like to thank the wonderful, caring hospice nurses who helped ease Chuck;s pain as he crossed the finish line to meet his ;Maker. If you are lucky enough to be near a Steak'n Shake, please go have a double meat steak burger with cheese, pickle and lettuce "önly" and think of Chuck as you enjoy. Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Janet, daughter Tamera,(Tammy) of Burleson, TX, brother Wayne Davis and wife Sara of Lafayette IN, brother Robert (Bob) Davis and wife Sharon of Toulon, IL, sister-in-law Laurie (Mrs. Dave Davis) of Granbury, TX, granddaughter, Miranda Helms and 4 great-grandchildren in Arizona as well as many nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dave. If you care to make a donation in Chuck's name, please give to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by calling 888-557-7177 or by going online to LLS.org. A celebration of Chuck's life will be held for friends and family on August 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at his home. Please come very casually dressed.
