Carol Ann Moody, long-time resident of Arlington, TX, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, December 17, 2023. She was 87 years old.
Carol Ann was born on May 4, 1936 in Abilene, TX, to Lewis Corder and Verna Jo Young. A self-called “child of the Depression,” Carol Ann spent her early years in West Texas in Elmdale, May, Rising Star, Noodle, and Merkel. Her father was a farmer and rancher, notably growing peanuts for the war effort. Her mother was a housewife who instilled a strong work ethic and a dedication to education. She would often speak of living on the farm with her three sisters (Chera Jane, Rutha Lew, and Debi), playing basketball and participating in interscholastic competitions in her youth.
Carol Ann graduated second in her class from Noodle High School in 1954. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Abilene Christian College and a master’s in English education from Sam Houston State University, followed by school administration and counseling certifications.
Carol Ann married William Joe Winter (d. 2015) on March 3, 1957 in Elmdale, Texas in her grandparent’s rural home. They had one child together, Karl Winter, whom they loved dearly. Carol Ann started her career as a public educator in Irving ISD in 1960 teaching English. In 1962, she moved to Arlington ISD and spent the next 30 years of her career in education as an English teacher, counselor and assistant principal, predominately at Arlington High School. She loved her students and they loved her. She was especially proud of serving as principal of the night school as well. Throughout her career, she was involved in school counselor training and development, the Americans Abroad Program, The Leukemia Foundation, and the Arlington Chamber of Congress.
Carol Ann married Richard Moody on July 7, 1991 in Arlington, Texas. They spent a great many years traveling the world and enjoying retirement on a variety of cruises, and finding a church community at First Presbyterian Church. A lifelong scholar and educator, Carol Ann led and educated others in giving back to the Arlington community through involvement in the Arlington Women’s Club, Book Club, and First Presbyterian Church to name a few.
Carol Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Verna Jo Corder, her sister, Chera Jane Foster, her husband, Richard Moody, her son, Karl Winter, and her stepson, Matthew “Matt” Moody.
Carol Ann is survived by two stepsons, Michael “Mike” (Susan) of Sadler, and Mark Moody of Wichita Falls; two granddaughters and five step-grandchildren, Jessica (Stephen “Bear”) Lunce of Arlington; Natalie Winter of Fort Worth; Christina (Chris) Schuttler of Alba; Heather (Jon) Matys of Grand Prairie, Sarah Moody of Cedar Park; Melissa (Philip) Soliz of Frisco; Jason Moody of Grand Prairie; two great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Rutha Leffel of Keller and Debi (Jim) Clark of Abilene; sister-in-law, Jean Glass of Arlington; and many cousins, nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
