Carl lived in Bonham until the age of 16, at that point he moved to Kansas City, Missouri to live with his older sister Joann. In January of 1977, Carl enlisted in the Army which began his 20 years of dedicated military service. In 1981 Carl married Delores in Lawton, Oklahoma.
