ARLINGTON -- Bruce Wilton Lowrie, 91, passed away on Saturday, June 18, 2016, in Arlington. Funeral: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tate Springs Baptist Church, 4201 Little Road, Arlington, with Rev. Bart McDonald and Rev. Charles Clary officiating. Interment: Holly Springs Cemetery, Martin Mills. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Memorials: Memorial gifts may be made to Tate Springs Baptist Church in Arlington. Bruce was born on Nov. 27, 1924, in Belcherville to Clyde Alexander Lowrie and Mina Faye Roberson Lowrie. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. As a first lieutenant, Bruce's B-17 was assigned to the 92nd bomb wing, where he was lead navigator. His crew flew 15 missions in 16 days supporting troops fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He was credited with 31 missions during the war. He also served as lead navigator for the 8th Air Force attack on Berlin, Germany. A resident of Tarrant County since 1946, he was owner and operator of Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet in Fort Worth. In 1965, he purchased Earnest Allen Chevrolet at 6th Avenue and Commerce Street. Bruce was a longtime active member of Tate Springs Baptist Church. He had previously taught field ministry and was an outreach worker for Broadway Baptist Church. Bruce was a member of the Fort Worth Jaycees, the Lion's Club, and was a past president of the Texas Brahman Association. He was a rancher for many years. He proudly supported Texas Christian University and the University of Texas at Austin. Survivors: Wife of 51 years, Maurine Elizabeth Lowrie; sons, Roddy Lowrie and wife, Laurie, Mark Lowrie, and Randy Shapiro and wife, Brandi; sister, Leatrice Bowlen; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
