Colonel Bruce A. Heitz USMC Ret.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Colonel Bruce Allen Heitz, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this life on April 5, 2025, at the age of 82. Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Bruce touched the lives of many through his unwavering dedication to family, service, and the pursuit of knowledge.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Heitz, with whom he celebrated nearly 57 wonderful years of marriage. He is also survived by his children, Jay Heitz and wife Lisa, Shean Heitz and wife Mandy, Kevin Heitz, and daughter Tammy Lindley and husband Jason. Bruce was a proud grandfather to his cherished grandchildren: Jackson and Ireland Lindley, Skyler and Braeden Heitz, and Hayes and Nate Heitz. He is additionally survived by his sister, Carol Keske, and her husband Carl, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews from both the Heitz and McGovern sides of the family.

A dedicated servant to our nation, Bruce rose through the ranks of the United States Marine Corps, ultimately earning the distinguished title of Colonel. He was a proud veteran who served with honor, earning two Bronze Stars with valor in recognition of his bravery. Beyond his military career, Bruce pursued his professional ambitions in law after attending the United States Naval Academy and Catholic University Law School. He became a JAG officer and later an attorney for various banking institutions. After working for the Comptroller of the Currency he furthered his career by being appointed the Chief Council for Texas American BankShares. He later joined several law firms, until April 2001, when he ventured out on his own and practiced law until 2024.

Bruce was an avid reader with a lifelong passion for learning. He found great joy on the golf course and treasured every beach vacation shared with his beloved family. His deep love for music—especially rock and roll and country—was the soundtrack to many cherished memories, from lively family gatherings to peaceful evenings at home. His curious spirit and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

As a devout Christian, Bruce’s faith guided his life and actions. His character was built on compassion, full transparency, and “The Do Right Rule” which was his gift to all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Funeral services will take place on May 15, 2025, beginning with a Mass at St. Jude Catholic Church in Mansfield, Texas, at 10:30 AM, followed by interment at the DFW National Cemetery at 12:45 PM. A celebration of life will follow, where we will honor Bruce’s memory, reflect on his enduring legacy, and celebrate the profound impact he had on so many.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Tunnels for Towers, an organization close to Bruce's heart.

As we remember Bruce, may his spirit continue to inspire love, perseverance, and dedication in our lives. He will be dearly missed, but his memory will forever remain alive in our hearts.
