Bradford Leroy Davis

Bradford L. Davis, M.D., M.T.S., 80, died October 11, 2017. Dr. Davis graduated from The University of Texas and from Baylor University College of Medicine in Houston, completing his residency in ophthalmology at Memorial Hermann Hospital. He served in the United States Air Force Medical Corps, first as a physician in general practice at Kelly AFB in San Antonio, and later as a flight surgeon and head of ophthalmology at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Major. Following his retirement from private practice in Arlington, he obtained a Master of Theological Studies from Brite Divinity School of TCU in Fort Worth. This led to the position of Director of Professional Ethics and Chief Medical Officer at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital. Brad's interest in medicine started in childhood when his family lived next door to Dr. Barclay, the family practice physician in Woodville. A music appreciation class in sixth grade began Brad's life-long love of music, especially classical and sacred. He was an active patron of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and a member of the choir at St. Stephen Presbyterian Church, where he also served as both elder and trustee. Brad loved nature — bird watching, surf fishing in Galveston, gardening, and watching the sunset from his deck. He had a strong interest in art, poetry, and history, and he was an avid reader of political and mystery novels. He could fix just about anything! Dr. Davis is survived by his wife, Janice Kemp, his daughter Lea Cane and husband Dr. Michael Cane, daughter Kimberly Davis, granddaughter Michelle Cane, step-children Claire Bush (Scott), Todd Kemp (Leslye), Brad Kemp (Antonietta Vicario), Erin Kemp (Peter Beberman), step-grandchildren Oliver and Elliott Kemp, sister Lynette Gainey (Jim), nieces Laura Young and Susan Ferguson, and nephew Thad Davis and their families. Dr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Stella Davis of Woodville, TX, his brother, Luther Davis of Houston, and his nephew Peter Davis of Houston. Memorial Service will be Friday, October 20th at 4:00 p.m. at St. Stephen Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth.
