Billy Pat Phillips, 88, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 in Fort Worth.
Funeral: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, St. Barnabas United Methodist Church, Arlington. Interment: Elmwood Cemetery, Abilene. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday, Wade Family Funeral Home, Arlington.

Billy was born on July 20, 1928 in Woodland, TX to Gordon Phillips and Veda Adams Phillips. The family moved to west Texas when Billy was young and they finally settled in Lubbock, TX. He graduated from Lubbock High in 1944 then attended Texas Tech University where he graduated with a BBA in accounting. He remained a big Tech fan.
Billy married the love of his life, Nancy McClendon, on August 7, 1954. They lived in Lubbock until moving to Abilene in 1970. He worked at McMurry University and the Texas Department of Human Resources until he retired.
Billy was a quiet and gentle man. He was a loving and supportive husband, father and granddaddy. He enjoyed participating in church activities, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school. He loved to garden, travel, read, spend quiet weekends at Lake Brownwood and play with his granddaughter, Lexie.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Tim Phillips and Dan Phillips.
Survivors: Wife, Nancy Phillips; daughter, Julie Phillips Ure and husband, Robert; brother, Rex Phillips; and granddaughter, Lexie Ure.
