ARLINGTON -- On the morning of September 27, 2013, Billy E. Horton won his long fought battle against physical separation from his Heavenly Father. The long time Arlington Texas resident and winning drag racer peacefully left this life surrounded by his loving family with his last willful act of kissing his wife and daughter just hours before.
Funeral: 10:00 a.m. Monday September 30 at California Lane Church of Christ, 1906 California Lane, Arlington. Interment: Hawkins Cemetery, Arlington. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, September 29. at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.
Surpassing 85 years the 20 year heart transplant recipient was a 30 year manager of the historic Hawkins Cemetery in South Arlington and 65 year member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Horton retired from Southwestern Bell with 39 years and was humbled and grateful for the gift of a heart given to him by 21 year old Roberto Lara and family of El Paso.
Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his daughter, Dana Pitts.
Survivors: He is survived by his wife Neita; daughter Gwynne Hanna and husband Gary, son Kelly Horton, Granddaughters Brandie Aschmeyer and husband Robert, Danielle Wood; 4 grandsons, Dustin Wood, Joshua, Zachary and Joel Horton; and 2 great grandsons Parker and Dalton Aschmeyer; sister, Ruth VanNoy; countless nieces, nephews and PaPa's baby boy Desi.
The family offers its deepest gratitude to Medical City Dallas, Dr. Judson Hunt, countless nurses and staff for 20 extra years and to Community Hospice, Dr. Godfrey, Michelle, Amy, Ginger, Theresa, Mary, Patty and Ella for the exceptional care and love shown in Mr. Horton's graceful and peaceful passing.
