Billy George York

December 18, 1933 — May 14, 2020

BILLY (BILL) G. YORK 12/18/1933 – 05/14/2020 Bill was born December 18, 1933 in Shamrock, Texas. He passed away peacefully May 14, 2020 at the age of 86 in Arlington, Texas. Bill lived a very full, proud and happy life. He grew up in Shamrock where he starred on the high school football team. He was very proud of the fact the he received offers to play football at several colleges in Texas. Instead he chose to focus on studies and attended Texas Tech University where he graduated with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Public Administration. While at Tech, he met and married Donna Patricia Kelso on June 1, 1955. Bill proudly served in the US Army for two years at Ft Hood, Texas and Ft Polk, Louisiana. After returning from his service and receiving his Master's degree he began the first phase of his professional career in City Management. He served as City Manager in Canyon, Edinburg, Alice and Mesquite Texas from 1960 to 1976. In 1976 he decided to shift his career to Finance and began the second phase of his professional career in Banking in Alice, Texas. In 1993 he and Donna moved to San Antonio where Bill began his role as Chief Financial Officer at Whataburger of Alice, Inc. He remained in that role until he retired at the age of 74 in 2007. Bill was always very active in his church and was a deacon and volunteer in every church that he and Donna attended. After his retirement he spent much of his free time volunteering at Shearer Hills Baptist Church in San Antonio. Bill was very proud of his career and his service to his church but what really made him happy was spending time with his granddaughter Lindsey and his grandson Jeremy. He loved summers in particular when they would come for extended visits. He enjoyed being able to take them swimming and to other fun activities all over San Antonio. His family would like to express their gratitude to the Memory Care staff at Heartis Arlington and to the nurses and staff of AlevCare Hospice for their loving and meticulous care of Bill during his last phase of life. Bill is preceded in death by his father, Clay York and mother, Veda Swift. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donna York; 2 sons: Jack and Diane York and Jeff York; 2 Grandchildren: Lindsey & Lance Hale and Jeremy & Lili York and Great Grandson: Joshua Hale. A private family memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas.
