Billie Jeanne Malone

August 3, 1926 — November 13, 2022

Billie “Jeanne” Webb Malone was born in Waxahachie, Texas on August 3, 1926 to James “Massie” Webb and Helen Chapman Webb. Her father owned a photography studio near the Square in Downtown Waxahachie and raised Jeanne and her two older brothers by himself after her mother passed away in 1939. He was a member of the Waxahachie Country Club, and under his tutelage, Jeanne grew to love golf.

After graduation from Waxahachie High School, Jeanne worked for Citizen’s Bank on the Waxahachie Square and at her father’s studio until she enrolled at Texas Christian University in the Fall of 1945.

While a coed at TCU, Jeanne was elected Ranch Week Queen, Class Favorite, and Miss TCU. She met fellow student, Doyle Malone (TCU Football and Golf Letterman from Plainview, Texas), at a bible study one evening.

Jeanne graduated from TCU in 1949, and she and Doyle married in August of 1950 in her aunt’s unairconditioned home in Waxahachie during 108-degree weather.

After living a year in Chicago while Doyle served in the US Navy at Great Lakes Naval Station, the couple moved to Childress, TX where Doyle coached until they moved to Arlington. Jeanne worked for Texaco in Downtown Fort Worth until oldest daughter Susan was born in 1958.

Jeanne and Doyle joined Shady Valley Country Club in the early 1960s. Jeanne won the Shady Valley Women’s Golf Tournament eighteen times, and the Women’s Golf Association honored her by naming an annual tournament, The Jeanne Malone Shootout. Her home was filled with many trophies, crystal items, silver trays, and a brass tea service that she won as prizes in golf tournaments. One of her favorite tournament prizes was a gold charm that represented the Shady Valley tree logo which was specially made for the Women’s Association by a local jeweler.

Besides playing golf at Shady Valley, Jeanne also played with the Ladies’ Association at Lake Arlington Golf Course. She and her other Shady Lady friends often traveled to play in the Central Texas Women’s Golf Association one-day and two-day tournaments.

Over the years, Jeanne served the Shady Valley Women’s Golf Association as President, Tournament Committee Co-Chair, and Games Chair.

When she wasn’t competing on the golf course, Jeanne was a busy stay-at-home Mom for daughters Susan and Nancy. She also sewed, knitted, and skillfully handmade many of her golf skirts and the girls’ clothes. During the girls years in elementary school, Jeanne served as Halloween Heyday Co-Chair and later as President of the South Davis Elementary PTA. In 1969, she was elected by her TCU classmates to be Coming Home Queen for their 20-year Reunion.

Jeanne is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years minus 5 days, Doyle Malone; her mother and father, and her two brothers, J. Massie and Tommy Webb.

She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Malone, Nancy Brown and husband Gerald of Arlington; her two grandsons Kyle Brown and wife Leah of Pflugerville and Chase Brown and wife Krista of Lufkin; her four greatgrandchildren Parker and Holder Brown of Lufkin and Corrie and Calvin Brown of Pflugerville.

The family would like to express our gratitude to Jeanne’s longtime caregivers Lora and Dora, who also served as Doyle’s caregivers for many years, as well as Michelle and Vitas Healthcare.
