Bettye Carmichael Decourcey

Bettye DeCourcey, 92, passed away on Tuesday February 15, 2022 in Arlington.

Funeral – 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 18, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway. Interment: Emerald Hills Memorial Park, Kennedale. Family Visitation from 10-10:30 a.m. on Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Bettye was born on July 28, 1929 in Hillsboro, Texas to Conway Dodson and Alpha Swink Carmichael. After completing high school in Hillsboro, she went on to receive her Bachelors degree in English from North Texas State Teachers College, later attaining her Master’s Degree in Education from Texas Women’s University.

She married Harold Otto in 1951 in Hillsboro, Texas. They resided in La Ward, Texas and had two children together, Beth and John. Later in life Bettye married Robin DeCourcey and they spent 39 years together in Arlington until Robin’s death in 2009.

Bettye spent 37 years teaching Texas school children. Her last 25 years were at Duff Elementary in Arlington. She loved her calling and no doubt influenced the lives of hundreds of children. It was her great joy to re-connect with many throughout the years.

Bettye was raised in the Disciples of Christ Church beginning at First Christian Church in Hillsboro, and over 50 years as a member of Northwest Christian Church in Arlington. Her faith was strong, and she lived it and shared it through her large network of family and friends.

Survivors: Sister, Geneva Keeton of Arlington; daughter, Beth Uselton and husband, Ron of Sherman; son, John Otto and wife, Kristi of Arlington; grandchildren, Tyler Otto and wife, Melissa, John Uselton, Ashley McIntosh and husband, Dustin, Laura Uselton, Lauren Rao and husband, Mike; great grandchildren, Jacob Guzman, Rylin Otto, John Otto, Addison McIntosh, Kate McIntosh, and Reese Rao.
