Betty Lou Pollock

June 7, 1933 — February 1, 2024

Betty Lou (Mathis) Pollock, 90, of Arlington, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 1, 2024. She was in the presence of her loving family.

On June 7, 1933, Betty, and her twin sister, Sue, were born in Tupelo, Arkansas, to Perry and Linnie (Young) Mathis. Perry farmed cotton for a living. Betty came from a large family of nine children who all joined in the effort to support the family. Her loving and hard-working parents developed Betty’s work ethic and incredible character.
These traits served her well as she ran a daycare center in her home for over three decades, where she raised too many children to mention from when they were six weeks old until they entered kindergarten. Many of these children returned to see Ms. Betty as adults as she had made such an impression on them.

While living in an apartment, keeping kids, and raising her third-grade daughter (Missy), her future husband, Curtis, moved in next door. They became friendly, and as time passed, Betty would knock on the wall when dinner was ready. They began dating shortly thereafter and married on December 17, 1977. They were blessed to spend many years together until Curtis’s passing in 2022.

Betty enjoyed spending time cooking out, surrounded by family, and enjoying the pool. However, her true passion was shopping at Dillard’s on Saturdays with Sue. As they entered the store, the clerks shouted, “There’s the twins!” Betty’s favorite holiday was Christmas and she enjoyed picking out the largest tree she could find and making ornaments for the yard.
She was a woman of faith and principle who instilled values in us such as loving and serving God, the importance of hard work, kindness, service to others, generosity, and love for family and country. Above all, Betty was known for her sweet nature. “Sweet” is the one word repeatedly used to describe her. She will live forever in our hearts.

If it weren’t for mothers’ many caregivers, she would not have been able to stay in her home as long as she was able to and out of nursing facilities or the hospital. They were always there for her and treated her with kindness and love. Ronnie her next-door neighbor checked on her multiple times a day and took care of every job around the house. Ethel and Sharon were her caregiver’s day and night and never complained about running over to her house in the middle of the night. Eloisa and Jackie her sweet housekeepers kept her home immaculate. Dorinda her hairdresser for thirty plus years come to her home so she could have her hair fixed every Friday and did her hair one last time for her funeral. We love you all and can’t thank you enough. My mother was surrounded with loving caring people who allowed her to stay in her home and watch Gunsmoke reruns which is what she wanted.

Betty’s spirit will live on through her daughters, Veronica Parker and Melissa Pittillo, their spouses, her sister Peggie Brown, and the many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all the family and friends who knew her.

Visitation will be held at Wade Funeral home Monday, February 12 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Tate Springs Church in Arlington, Texas at 2:00 PM.
