Betty Jo Cook Gilbert

Betty Jo Cook Gilbert 92 of Arlington, Texas passed away March 14, 2024, just 8 days from her 93rd birthday. She was born in Sherman, Texas to Edna and Virgil Cook. Betty graduated from Forest Avenue High School in 1949. She found her niche in life during High School, the skills of which she would carry into many of future job endeavors and eventually lead her to Zale Jewelers where she retired from.

She met and married the love of her life Carl “Jack” Gilbert in Dallas, Texas. They were married on July 31, 1954. They soon relocated to Arlington, Texas to raise their family and resided there the rest of their lives.

Betty had a deep Love and Devotion for her family. She enjoyed sewing, making many dresses, shirts, shorts and Barbie evening gowns for her daughters. She enjoyed having her family every Sunday at their home and hosting Holidays for them. One of the many highlights of the meals was her chocolate cake she made; the grandkids still refer to as “Granny Cake”. She loved playing cards with her kids and grandchildren after holiday meals and would not hesitate to call them out for not playing by the rules.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas. For the past year she had been attending Fielder Road Baptist Church with her daughter Cindy.

Betty was proceeded in death by the Love of her life Carl “Jack” Gilbert, her parents, 3 sisters, 1 brother and 2 great grandchildren.

She is survived by Daughter Cindy Hoover (Mike) of Arlington, Son Richard Gilbert (Stephanie) of Arlington, Daughter Janet Kipker (Russ) of Joshua. Brother Don Cook of Fort Worth, 9 Grandchildren, 18 great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held Thursday March 21, 2024, from 6pm to 8pm at Wade Family Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on March 22, 2024, at 11am at Wade Family Funeral Home. Interment will be held Monday March 25, 2024, at DFW National Cemetery at 2pm.

Betty will be deeply missed by her Family and Friends.
