Bertha Garbes Turk

October 25, 1912 — March 17, 2017

Bertha was born in Indianapolis, IN on Oct. 25, 1912, to Frances & Anthony Garbes after her parents arrived here in 1890 from Yugoslavia through Ellis Island in New York. She was raised along with her 2 brothers & 1 sister until she married her one & only true love, John Turk on May 2, 1936. She devoted all of her time to homemaking and caring for her family, moving to Absecon, NJ in 1960. After 49 ½ yrs of marriage and until her husband's death in 1983 she continued to live in Absecon until her move to Arlington, Tx in 2003 to be near her daughter & family. She lived independently at Waterford in Pantego, Tx until her health became an issue in 2010. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, siblings & her husband. She was a devout Catholic and her longevity is due to family genes, being a hard worker, keeping active in her yard with gardening work while living in NJ and having an occasional beer. Besides her daughter, Rita & son-in-law Lee, she leaves behind here in Arlington/Mansfield area, 2 grand-daughters, Kimberly (Chris) & Stephanie (Nick); 3 great grandsons, Johnathan (and Fiancee Jazymn), Steven & Devon; 1 great granddaughter Jasmine & 2 great great granddaughters, Aria & Kylie (due to be born April 2017). Her son, David, who lives in Martinsville, IN; 3 grandchildren, Russell (Laurie) from Indianapolis, IN; and Marie (Doug) from Morgantown, IN; 5 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren all living in Indiana. The family would like to thank Crowley Nursing & Rehab for the care they gave these past few years and a special thank you to Mission Hospice especially Charity, RN Case Manager & Erica, volunteers & all the ones that gave their warm & compassionate care to mom the last few weeks of her life. Any memorials can be made to Mission Hospice, 827 N. Main, Cleburne, Tx 76033. A thank you is also extended to Mr. Duane Smith, friend, for his visits all those years & helpfulness in our time of need.
