ARLINGTON -- Bernice Necessary Franks, 81, after a full, blessed life, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at an Arlington hospice. Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Interment: 3 p.m. in Hemmeline Cemetery in Gatesville. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wade Family Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hemmeline Cemetery Association, 1050 FM 1783, Gatesville, Texas 76528. Bernice was born Sept. 30, 1932, to Archie and Zepha Necessary in Coryell County. She married her sweetheart and the love of her life, Ross Franks, in November 1950. They moved to Arlington shortly thereafter. Bernice worked several jobs in Arlington and Fort Worth to help support her husband while he was attending college. Her own career began when she worked her way up from the sales floor to head cashier at Sears, where she was employed for many years. After a short stint as a cashier for First National Bank of Arlington, she was personally recommended to set up a central cashier office at the University of Texas at Arlington. She was employed by UTA as the head cashier for the housing and university center from 1983 to 1987. She then transferred to the position of reservation coordinator where she was responsible for room reservations for student organizations, staff and community organizations for functions, seminars and meetings. She was recognized with numerous certificates of appreciation by various community and campus student groups. In 1989 she received the UTA Outstanding Employee Award in recognition for her work and accomplishments. She retired from UTA in 1996 to travel and care for her family. She remained active in the community through her volunteer work with local nursing homes and her work with the UTA Retirees Club. In 2013, she was inducted into the UTA Retirees Roll of Honor for her contributions in leadership positions in the organization. She was socially active with her many friends in the Red Hat Society and her Bunco Club. Throughout her life, Bernice was known to go above and beyond in everything she did and for everyone she knew. She was devoted to her husband, her family, her friends and her career. She will best be remembered for her boundless energy and enthusiasm for life, which she unselfishly shared with everyone she loved. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross. Survivors: Sons, David and wife, Janis, and Scott and wife, Gena; daughter, Susan and husband, Frank; grandchildren, Jonathan and wife, Stacey, Preston, Skylar, Carly and Katey; and great-grandchildren, Devin and Haylee.
