Barbara Ann Murphy, 83, of Arlington, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024. Born on October 31, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas, Barbara was the beloved oldest child of Thomas Henry Nobis and Sadie Leigh (Williams) Nobis.
Barbara’s journey began at Brackenridge High School, where she was an active member of the Wacompas Club and the Purple Jackets. It was during her sophomore year that she met the love of her life, Jack Michael Murphy. Their relationship blossomed into a lifelong marriage filled with unwavering love and devotion, culminating in their wedding at St. Peters Church in San Antonio in 1961. They recently celebrated 63 years of marriage.
The couple's first home was in El Campo, Texas, where Barbara worked for the local school system while Jack began his career in the Food Services Industry. Shortly after that they moved to San Antonio and over the next several years, Jack and Barbara grew to have three children. In 1972, while working with Kraft Foods, Jack and Barbara relocated the family to Oklahoma City. While being a devoted mother, Barbara also worked at Putnam City Schools as a library aide.
In 1977, another career move brought Jack and Barbara to Arlington, Texas. Barbara joined the Arlington Independent School District, where she continued to assist schools in various roles. Both Jack and Barbara were founding members of Saint Vincent De Paul Church, where they dedicated themselves to their parish community. Barbara served as the president of the Women’s Guild, volunteered in the front office and oversaw the Ways and Means committee. Outside church service, Barbara was an active member of the Red Hat Society, reflecting her love for service and fellowship.
St. Vincent de Paul Catholic church was a guiding light in Barbara’s life. She cherished her relationships with fellow parishioners and families. She devoted herself to family,embodying kindness, compassion, and generosity.
The later chapters of Barbara’s life is where she found the great joy of catering. For over 20 years, Barbara received constant positive feedback from hundreds of clients. She enjoyed making other peoples’ special events a time they could treasure forever.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Jack, her eldest daughter, Lu Anne, her son Michael and his wife Jan, younger daughter Amber and 5 grandchildren: Alexis, Murphy and her husband Aaron, Bailey, Ryan and Kyle. They will remember her vibrant spirit and unwavering love for others. A celebration of her life will be held at Saint Vincent De Paul Church, with details to follow.
