Barbara Helen Young

Barbara Helen Young, age 82, of Arlington, Texas, died December 29 at her home.

Barbara was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on September 28,1940. She was the daughter of William and Caroline Jones. She moved to Arlington, Texas in December of 1948 where her father gained employment at Vought Aircraft. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1958. Barbara attended the University of Texas at Austin, Southern Methodist University and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in 1978 and Master of Science Degree in Education in 1990 from Texas Wesleyan University.

Barbara married her high school sweetheart, L.G. Young, and they had a son and twin daughters. In 1976, Barbara began her tenure on the faculty of Shackelford Junior High School where she devoted her career to educating and mentoring children. She taught English, Personal Business Management and Computer Literacy. She received numerous awards over her twenty-five-year career including Teacher of the Year in 2000. Barbara was known for her compassion, work ethic and was truly admired among her peers.

Barbara was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority and has been an active and long standing member of Saint Alban’s Anglican Church where she served on altar guild.

Her main joys in life were her family and friends. She also, enjoyed traveling, gardening and watching sports.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by a son, two daughters, four grandchildren and one great grandchild, Chris (Sue) Brooklin & Shelby Young of New Braunfels, TX; Marilyn (Paul) Cody, Casey Langemeier and grandson Ryder of Southlake, TX; and Carolyn (David) Carroll of Plano, TX. She is also survived by one brother, Bill (Brycene) Jones of North Richland Hills, TX.

A memorial service will be held at Saint Alban’s Anglican Church at 911 S. Davis Drive, Arlington, TX, on January 28 at 10:00 a.m., with Father Joseph Francis officiating.

There will be a reception in the parish hall immediately following the service.
