Barbara Harlow Carroll

January 23, 1934 — January 20, 2024

Barbara Harlow Carroll was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on January 23, 1934. She later moved to Denison, Texas where she met and married Jerry Lee Harlow. They were married for fifty-one years and raised their four daughters in Arlington, Texas.
Her heart has always been towards teaching and nurturing others. She completed her degree at University of North Texas in education while raising her young daughters. Teaching and nurturing others remained her passion long after she retired from Arlington ISD.
Perhaps she is best remembered by the way she tended the hearts and souls of all whom she encountered. A seat at her open table always included homemade desserts and a sincere and heartful prayer. While many people pray, prayer was a deep calling and mission for Barbara. People knew to contact her with their needs anytime day or night.
She is survived by her husband Maurice Carroll; daughters and their spouses: Deborah and Gary Coke of Arlington, Texas; Jerry and Jimmy Lee of Woodstock, Illinois; Sharon and Pete Wilson of Southlake, Texas; and Michelle and Dale Green of Lufkin, Texas.
She had ten grandchildren, Jerremy Coke of Arlington, Texas; Lindsey Burns of Aledo, Texas; Elissa Davis of Montgomery, Alabama; Garrett Winder of Aledo, Texas; Kara Kozycarz of Abilene, Texas; Jenna-Leigh Wilson of Charlotte, North Carolina; Rachelle Tollemar of Chicago, Illinois; Mykah Wilson of Long Beach, California; Justin Mitchell of Montrose, Colorado; and Cody Mitchell of Brooklyn, New York.
She also had sixteen great-grandchildren plus stepdaughters LeeAnn Carroll Day and Lynda Carroll Read of Orange, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mable and Ortho Swink, spouse Jerry Harlow, siblings Jackie, Wanda and Peggy, and spouse Gene Fritts.
We are grateful for the richness of her life, her impact to all, and the legacy she left behind.
Prior to working with the staff of Hospice in the Pines, the term “compassionate care” could be vaguely interpreted. This team embodied the term, elevating it to something far more than a word. We sincerely thank Demetress and Napoleon for their empathetic leadership; for the weekly care from Barbara, Laura and Evi; for the immediate and tender care from Dr. Bell, for the In-Patient care team of Edwardo, Tiffany & Tiffany, Amanda and Layla; Hortencia and Ann, Tye, and to all others who were a part of this team. Thank you, Justina, for your ministry of bathing and anointing mother’s body with oil, and including her daughters to participate in this final sacred moment.
The family will hold a private graveside service.
