Assia Ray passed away Friday, February 7, 2020 in Arlington.
Funeral: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 15, 2020 at First Baptist Church, Arlington.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Wade Family Funeral Home, Arlington.
Assia was born on January 7, 1929, in Rostov, Russia. She was one of five children. Her family left Russia when Assia was a young child as a result of the Bolshevik Revolution. Assia spent her school-age and young adult years in Tehran, Iran. This is where she met her “prince in shining armor” who service in the Defense Attache at the American Embassy in Tehran. They secretly dated for two years before they married and moved to Manchester, Tennessee. Assia and her “hero” journeyed through life for 56 years. Most of their years were spent in El Paso, Texas until they moved to Fort Worth to be closer to family. She worked hard as a homemaker for her family. Assia was a loving wife, mama, and “Meamaw”. She loved God and was active in her church, First Baptist Church of Arlington, Texas. Assia was small in stature, but big in love. She never met a stranger and blessed everyone she met with her sweet disposition and warmth. Assia loved to bake and host people in her home. Her life was spent on serving and helping others. Assia will be greatly missed and always remembered by those who love her.
Survivors; Assia and her husband, R.L., had two children, Richard Leon Ray and Karen Anita Gearinger. Richard and his wife, Liz, live in Tulsa, OK and they have three children, Daniel, Stephen, and Kristina. Karen and her husband, Chris, live in Fort Worth, and they have two children, Jonathan and Nathan.
