ARLINGTON -- Arthur S. Bird, 80, passed away Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, in Arlington, and is now at peace with his beloved bride for all of eternity.
Funeral: 1 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Arlington, with Rev. Rich McDermott officiating. Interment: Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington. Visitation: The family will receive family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wade Family Funeral Home Chapel.
Memorials:In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Arthur's name to Mission Arlington or a charity of your choice.
Arthur was born Aug. 26, 1936, to Oriel and Edgar Bird and was a lifelong Arlington resident. He attended Arlington High School where he played football, baseball, and participated in many clubs and activities. He was a proud graduate of 1954 and was very active in the Alumni Association staying close to his class for 62 years. He attended the University of Texas and graduated in 1959. He loved his Longhorns and attended games long after graduation. Arthur married Martha Looney in 1958 and soon to follow was the birth of a son and daughter. Arthur was an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoyed golfing and bowling with his friends for over 40 years. He was a corporate controller for many years and ended his work career at Martin Sprocket and Gear. He referred to his job as "the best place on earth to work." He enjoyed spending time with his family, grilling, gardening, listening to music and traveling.
Most importantly, he was a proud husband, father, and granddaddy to his one and only granddaughter, Caitlin. Arthur has been described as a man of integrity, generosity and humility and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 54 years, Martha Ann Looney Bird; his beloved German Shepherd, Duchess.
Survivors: Son, Cameron Bird of Austin; daughter, Carrie Bogard and husband, Shalor Bogard, of Arlington; granddaughter, Caitlin Bogard of New York City; sister, Josie O'Quinn of Arlington.
