Mr. Arlo Vaughn Austin

Doc was born December 11, 1928, in Williamsburg, Iowa. He passed away on February 1, 2024, in Arlington, Texas.

Doc was one of seven children. His parents, Charles Austin and Arta Frieda Gigenheimer, raised the children on a working farm in Grinnell, Iowa. In Doc’s early years he was known for his kindness and love of animals…thus the nickname Doc.

Upon graduation from Grinnell High School, Doc joined the Navy and served in the Korean War. After his military service Doc attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

Doc was married to Carol Ann Austin for 65 years. Doc and Carol raised two daughters, Cheryl McWithey and Jolynn Abendschein. Cheryl and Jolynn are married to Mike McWithey and Bill Abendschein.

Doc was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren. Madison and Judge McWithey and Alex and Austin Abendschein.

Doc worked at Chrysler Credit for years in their finance department.

Doc’s hobbies included managing his real estate properties and handyman projects.

Doc wanted to share this day with his brother, Wayne Donald Austin. Wayne was killed in the Korean War and his remains were never returned home. To the very end, this had a significant impact on Doc.

The family is at peace with Doc’s passing. He will be remembered for his loyalty to his wife and devotion to his family.
