Annie Mcdowall Martin

Annie Boyd McDowall, known to all as Nan, was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1933. She lived through the war years in Great Britain and the times were hard. Through it all she developed an indomitable spirit, which would carry her through her life. Her mother died when she was a teen, and she took on the role of rearing 2 younger sisters, June and Pearl. She met and married the love of her life, a handsome young GI, Raymond, who was stationed in Edinburgh. Later they bore a daughter, Elaine, in Scotland before moving to Texas. With several years of careful saving, she and her new husband managed to eventually bring her sisters over from Scotland to live with them. A son, Raymond was next brought into the fold. Although, she often reminisced about the "old country", she worked hard to make a new and better life in Texas. Always industrious, she and her husband always demonstrated strong values and work ethic. There was a touch of the Highland Spirit always evident and often she would perform a Highland Fling or break out into a rendition of "Loch Lomand". She worked for many years in the Title business and enjoyed gardening and cooking. She also enjoyed travel and spending time with her grandson, Ian. She always had a strong love of family and home and deep loyalty to her family, above all. She is preceded in death by her mother, Annie McDowall.. Survivors: Husband of 59 years Raymond Earl Martin, son, Raymond Louis Martin of Arlington; daughter, Elaine Staten, and husband, Jim; grandson, Ian; sisters, June Burton and husband Frank, Pearl Smith and husband Vernon; sister-in-law, Mary Anderson and husband, Jim, Betty Wiley; brother-in-law, Louis Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the many kind and caring physicians, nurses, therapists, and other caregivers at Arlington Cancer Center, Arlington Memorial Hospital, and Community Hospice.
