Angela Belindo

August 28, 1961 — December 26, 2021

Angela Belindo was born August 28, 1961 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to John and Sharon Belindo. She passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, December 26, 2021 at the age of 60. It gives her family great peace knowing that she is now with her Creator and her creative mind now at rest.

Angela was an accomplished painter and poet. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts with distinction from Stanford University, Palo Alto, California in 1984. Her artistic accomplishments include receiving the Louis Sudler Prize and the Raina Giese Award in Creative Painting from the Art Department at Stanford University. After graduating from Stanford she resided in Santa Fe for many years as an active participant in the Native American arts community: she being of Navajo and Kiowa ancestry. Angela had numerous exhibitions in New Mexico which included the Institute of American Indian Arts Museum in Santa Fe, the Festival of Native American Arts, the Armory for the Arts, Espanola Fine Arts Center and the Indo-Hispano/Nuevo Mexicano Art Exhibit in Abiquiu, New Mexico. Her work was also displayed in Arizona at the Coconino Center of the Arts in Flagstaff and the Contemporary Native American Women Artist Exhibition at the University of Arizona State University in Tempe. After Santa Fe she moved to Arlington, Texas where she spent the remainder of her adult years.

Angela also loved and wrote poetry, enjoyed debating philosophy and religion, and had an extensive knowledge of art history. Despite her struggle with mental illness throughout her life, she remained committed to her art and overcame many obstacles to continue showing her art at local venues in Tarrant County. She leaves with us many beautiful works of art that will be forever cherished and it is through her art that her memory will live on.

Angela is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon “John” and Esther “Sharon” Belindo. She is survived by two sisters who loved and faithfully cared for her until her death: Julie and Kelly Belindo from Arlington and Fort Worth. Other survivors include her brother Anthony Belindo (of Memphis), her brother-in-law Clifford Willems, loving nieces: Amber Belindo Donaldson (of Brisbane, Australia), Briana Belindo and Mackenzie Willems; and caring nephews: John and Scott Willems, all from Fort Worth, She is also survived by her aunt, Phyllis Belindo of Taos, New Mexico as well her two closest cousins Barry and Jon Belindo and many other family members, too numerous to name, who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank everyone who has prayed for us during this difficult time of loss and grief.

A private memorial service for Angela will be held at a future date.
