Alton Ray Wells

July 23, 1942 — May 21, 2024

Alton Ray Wells passed from his earthly home on the morning of Tuesday, May 21st, 2024, at the age of 81 and entered his heavenly home to meet his Father’s call. Al was born July 23, 1942, in Vashti, TX to Christian and Florence Wells. Vashti was a little town that had a center pole with family name signs pointing in the direction of where they lived. Al had 4 siblings: Loy, Ina, Milam, and Norman.

After high school graduation, he bounced around looking for a place to settle. He finally left Lubbock with some friends and his wife, Tammy, and their three children: Glenn, Don, and Laurie. They ended up moving to Arlington. He went to work for Piggly Wiggly in the warehouse. After a time, he left there to obtain his real estate license. Afterwards, he spent more than forty years opening his own business listing and selling homes, remodeling, and reselling them as well. In April 1974, he lost his wife Tammy. In 1976, Al married his wife Elaine who was a widow with two children: Janette and Andrea. In 1980, Al joined First Baptist Church, Arlington.

Al was an avid tennis player and in his younger years, he played doubles at Arlington Tennis Association. More recently at the age of 81, he played in the FBCA Boomer Ministry Tuesday Night Tennis League and had a blast. He said he lost his serve but always enjoyed being included until he broke his hip. He helped at Mission Arlington religiously for over twenty years between school supplies, building bicycles, a pickup route, and so much more. He wanted to be a good role model to all the children and share all the positivity that he could to bring the light of the Lord and his teachings to them.

Al was a great father and grandfather who took the time and care to nurture those relationships and make everyone around him feel special. He would always have a dad joke or two to share with us and just crack up at himself for being so funny! When it came to the grandkids, he especially liked to play store, fishing in his tank on Roosevelt, watching all the school and sporting events, rollerblading and hot dogs and let’s not forget, the fabulous Fourth of July fireworks, legal or not. He always had a smile on his face and kind words to share. He will forever be loved and never forgotten until we see you again.
