Alton Webster Becker Jr.

1941 — 2025

Arlington, TX

Alton Webster Becker Jr., age 83, of Arlington, Texas, passed away on January 24, 2025. Born in Paterson, New Jersey in 1941, Al lived a life centered on love, dedication, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to his family.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Al cherished the time spent with his beloved wife, Doris, and their children and grandchildren. Whether supporting his daughters' endeavors or sharing his love of history, sports, and travel with his family, Al's presence was a constant source of love and encouragement. He never missed a game or event, always there to cheer on his children and later his grandchildren, he instilled in them the values of perseverance, dedication, and integrity. His famous "Grandpa Popsicles" and "putting green pancakes" will be fondly remembered by those who had the privilege of growing up with his warmth and humor.

Al understood the value of hard work and took pride in his career that supported his family. A proud graduate of Clifton High School in Clifton, New Jersey, Al went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford, New Jersey, and furthered his education at New York University in New York, New York. He honed his skills in journalism at The Herald News in Passaic, New Jersey, and The Newark News in Kearny, New Jersey before joining the public relations team at American Airlines. He served as Managing Director of Corporate Communications, guiding the company through significant moments including the tragic events of September 11, 2001. His airline career spanned thirty-seven years. Al's professionalism, leadership, and work ethic were widely respected. He carried these principles into every aspect of his life.

Beyond his professional life, Al was an active member of his community. He served as President of both the Arlington Senior Men's Golf Association and the Kiwanis Club of Arlington, embracing opportunities to give back and build connections with those around him. A passionate golfer, he found great joy on the course, appreciating not only the sport but also the camaraderie it fostered.

Al's love for adventure and learning never waned. He and Doris explored the world together, creating cherished memories on river cruises, scaling the Sydney Harbor Bridge, and discovering Japan and Germany. A true history buff, Al found joy in experiencing new places, but his greatest joy was having Doris by his side.

His appreciation for life's simple joys-Christmas traditions, baseball, hummingbird cake, and a good laugh at a corny joke-reflected his kind and generous spirit. He was known for his "what a guy award," humorously celebrating acts of kindness and service within his family. Even in the face of health challenges, Al remained steadfast in his positive outlook, inspiring those around him with his resilience and grace.

Al is survived by his loving wife, Doris Ann Becker; daughters Janice Titsworth and her husband Jim, and Pamela Bentley and her husband David; and grandchildren Mitchell Titsworth, Lauren Titsworth, Elizabeth Bentley, and Kathryn Bentley. His legacy of love, hard work, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
