Alma Jean Merwin was born February 1, 1936 in Dallas, Texas to Dale and Fern Merwin. She passed away of an apparent heart attack 86 years later, May 21, 2022 at her apartment in Mansfield, Texas where she lived with her older sister. She had a very eventful career in medical technology and chemistry. She graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1960 and from Charity Hospital at New Orleans School of Medical Technology in 1962. In the 1960’s she worked at Baylor University Medical Center and as a medical technologist at Methodist Hospital in Dallas. In the 1970’s she was supervisor of Clinical Chemistry at Morton Hospital of Wadley Institute before joining the clinical Chemistry Department at the V. A. Hospital in Dallas where she worked into her seventies. She received many awards for her work and many people may have lived much better and longer lives because of her effective work. She became known for her helpfulness to other people.
She is survived by her older sister Frances Moore, a brother Dr. William Merwin of Clayton, Missouri, and a brother-in-law Darmon and sister Marjorie King of Lancaster, Texas. All of her many friends will be welcomed at her grave side service at Laurel Land, 6000 South R.L Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX.
