Alice McKown Chandler, 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2019 in Fort Worth, Texas, surrounded by all three of her children.
Alice was born on June 17, 1940 in Spartanburg, SC to Robert and Mary Alice McKown. She moved to Texas to attend TWC, where she studied music. She settled in Lake Worth and graduated from Texas Women's University in 1977 with a degree in social work. Alice longed to help people with addictions and became a licensed counselor and social worker. She spent her career as both a parole officer and probation officer and served as a therapist at alcohol and drug abuse rehab centers. She helped many people battle and overcome their addiction issues.
Alice served her spiritual community as church organist for St Anne's Episcopal Church in Lake Worth for many years and sang in the choir at Christ the King Episcopal Church in Fort Worth. After retirement, she moved to Arlington, Texas where she joined St. Mark's Anglican Church and sang in their choir. Through the years, she was a substitute organist for several churches in the Fort Worth Diocese and played the piano for many weddings.
When asked about her dedication to her church and choral efforts, Alice would reply: “God speaks to me through music.” Along with her special love of music, Alice enjoyed reading, gardening, spoiling her pets and cooking delicious meals for friends and family. She had a “Pot Roast Ministry” and delivered dinners to many of her friends and church members when they were ill and in need.
