Alexander Maynard Hydak was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on November 29, 1943 to Alexander Frank Hydak and Dorothy Elizabeth Hamick. Eventually the family found their way to Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth where Al attended Laneri High School. In 1962 his class was the last class to graduate from Laneri. After graduation he started college at Arlington State College which later became the University of Texas at Arlington. His junior year he enlisted in the US Army and spent a tour of duty in Vietnam.
Meanwhile, that young, beautiful, blonde that he met in school was busy writing him letters and keeping up his morale. Upon his return in 1968 they soon got engaged and married a year later on August 16, 1969. Al was an only child, and his wife Sharon was convinced that he married her so that he could have siblings of which Sharon had 8. Al returned and finished his degree in Accounting and started work for Lone Star Gas. Over the years he worked for several different accounting firms and after retiring continued to do taxes and other bookkeeping for family and friends.
Al was a family man. He loved his children. Michele, the oldest, was the apple of his eye, Christopher was the son he waited 7 years to have, and Deborah his little angel in heaven. His children knew that if he was able, he would be at every one of their sporting events, recitals, band concerts, musical performances and any other activity involving them.
He was active in SMG church and school. He helped in the SMG food pantry and Baby's World, was an honorary "Girl Scout", co-chaired the Kountry Karnival, judged the Science Fair, served on the School Advisory Board, ushered at Masses, was Eucharistic Minister, and was treasurer of the Leisure Club. His community also benefitted from his volunteering. For several years he served by being an election official, was an active member of the Theatre Arlington Guild and was on the Board of the HOPE foundation.
Al was preceded in death by his mother and father and youngest daughter. His memory lives on through his wife, Sharon, daughter Michele Alexander and her sons Jonathon, Stefan, and Austin, and son Christopher and his wife Beth and their two children Jack and Alexis. Numerous sisters and brothers-in- law, and nieces, nephews and friends will miss and remember his sense of humor and the kindness he showed to everyone.
Donations in his honor can be made to St. Maria Goretti Catholic School, 1200 S. Davis Drive,
Arlington, TX 76013 or on the school's web site htts://smgschool.org/give-now.
