Alec Brice Korol

Alec Brice Korol, 23, of Arlington, Texas passed away Friday afternoon, January 26, 2018 in Lubbock. Alec is survived by his parents, Rob and Marla Korol, his sister Aubrey Esparza, grandmothers Delores Uhri and Hazel Baskett, his fur baby Bailey, and many other family and friends. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, February 3, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb 2, at the funeral home. To donate, go to http://afsp.donordrive.com/campaign/aleckorol Alec was born in Fort Worth on November 4, 1994 to Rob and Marla Korol of Arlington, Texas. Alec was the younger brother of his sister Aubrey (Korol) Esparza. Growing up, Alec participated in all the typical sports including T-ball, Soccer, Basketball and Football. In Junior High, he played the saxophone in the band. Later, he became quite proficient at guitar, attending private lessons and honing his skills through YouTube and “Guitar Tabs”. One of Alec's favorite Christmas's was when he received his cherished black Schecter electric guitar with “bat” frets! While very outgoing in his younger years, Alec became more shy after Junior High. Despite becoming increasingly reserved, those who grew to know him found his dry sense of humor and quick wit very entertaining. In High School, Alec participated on the Martin wrestling team with a great coaching staff that resulted in a very fit young man. Much to his Dad's trepidation, Alec would sometimes use his father as a sparring partner, never once losing a match to the old man. Alec was a 2013 graduate of Martin High School and later attended Texas A&M University in College Station as well as Texas Tech in Lubbock. While at Texas A&M, Alec was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity where he made numerous good friends. Alec enjoyed family trips to the beach to chase hermit crabs or to scuba dive with sea turtles. With his family and friends, he also made a number of trips to colder climates to ski, sled, and snow board. Alec LOVED animals! From a young age, Alec always had a deep place in his heart for animals, especially dogs! Alec was fortunate to have numerous dogs for which he cared deeply: Slocum, Lucky, Jazz, Chuckie, Toby, Bella, and numerous foster dogs. He always wanted a “real” dog…aka something that wasn't part Chihuahua. Bailey, his Boxer/Lab mix, came into his life two years ago and he would constantly comment “she's perfect!” In an attempt to stay close to his love of animals, Alec applied to work at the Fort Worth Zoo while in college. Much to his surprise/displeasure, they placed him at the Dickey's BBQ located in the Zoo. Not that Dickey's is a horrible place to work, but that didn't last too long. Evidently it wasn't quite the animal experience for which he was hoping. This past year, Alec worked at Creature Comfort Animal Clinic in Arlington when home on break from college. Alec thoroughly enjoyed his time there caring for the multitude of dogs that came through the doors. Even though he had Bailey, the more dogs the better to fulfill his dog “fix”. During one stint, Alec was one of few people allowed to care for a large and quite challenging police dog. We think this might have been the “client” that resulted in a raise and path to promotion! Despite all his talents and the large group of people who dearly loved Alec, he suffered from severe depression, first manifesting itself in the form of a suicide attempt in September 2014. Since that time, his family and friends fought relentlessly to give him the support and resources needed to overcome his depression. Alec went to Lubbock not knowing anyone, and soon met three very special people who were placed in his life for a distinct purpose. They went out of their way to show their love and support for Alec. His family is eternally grateful for their presence in his life. He was definitely not alone in Lubbock! It seemed that he had turned the corner in the fall semester of 2017. Transferring to Texas Tech, and changing his major to Accounting/Finance resulted in a 4.0 this past Fall. Alec seemed he was set for the spring semester. For some unknown reason, Alec fell into a deep, fast downward spiral which resulted in him taking his life on Friday, January 26th. One of many blessings that his family holds close, is that they were able to have a pleasant lunch with him that Friday. While his family was eternally hopeful for his future, it seemed that lunch may have been his last gesture of closure, as only he knew what was about to happen. No words can express how deeply we miss you Bubs, but we know your pain is gone now and you are finally at peace. We love you and miss you. Mom, Dad, Aubrey and Bailey.
