Our beloved Agnes Theresa Schoppe passed away on September 9, 2024.
The daughter of Anton A. Kaspar and Agnes L. (Kolek) Kaspar, Agnes was born on September 25, 1939 in Ganado, Texas. She graduated from Ganado High School in 1957 and Seton School of Nursing in 1960. She proceeded to have an admirable career as a Registered Nurse caring for ICU patients in hospitals throughout the south, as her family relocated to Austin TX, Bryan TX, Arlington TX, and Lafayette LA, before finally returning to Arlington. Agnes retired from Arlington Memorial Hospital in 2010 where she worked in the ICU and Utilization Review departments.
While in nursing school, Agnes met the love of her life, Daniel "Dan" Lynn Schoppe. After three years of dating, they married in Ganado in 1960. They were 23 hours shy of celebrating their 64th anniversary at the time of her death (not that anyone was counting).
Agnes and Dan raised three sons and one daughter who have all had successful careers following their college graduations. Agnes nurtured her family with a seemingly tireless dedication, ensuring all routine household tasks were completed promptly and correctly according to her standards and daily schedule. Anyone that visited the Schoppe home immediately observed its immaculateness.
Agnes adored flowers, enjoyed gardening, and marveled at the animals that visited the yard and bird bath. She was fond of the pecan tree Dan planted and relished each year's bountiful harvest.
Agnes also loved to dance. Whenever an opportunity arose, she and Dan could be spotted bobbing up and down as they gleefully swirled to a Polka, Waltz, or Texas Two-Step rhythm, smiling from ear-to-ear and gazing into each other’s eyes.
Of obvious significance to Agnes was her family, including her parents, in-laws, 7 siblings, 5 children, 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and countless extended relatives. She treasured family meals (she had numerous family-favorite recipes, most notably her Thanksgiving Cornbread Dressing). She was always available for a game of 42 Dominoes or an impromptu FaceTime conversation. She was a constant presence in the lives of her grandchildren, even those who lived out-of-state. They frequently received clippings from the newspaper of articles she thought would interest them or coupons for groceries.
Agnes's deep Catholic faith provided energy when exhausted, strength in crisis, comfort in times of sorrow, and a moral compass for the way she conducted her life and interacted with others. She prayed the rosary daily, even more frequently when faced with a difficult challenge such as her cancer or when helping a struggling friend.
She is survived by her husband; her son Daniel Paul and his wife Michelle; her son Karl Anthony and his wife Cathy; her son Kurt Francis and his wife Shireen; and her daughter Theresa Marie. Her surviving grandchildren include Ashley; Ryan and his wife Claire; Amanda Harris and her husband Brian; Kaitlyn Pakkala and her husband Michael; Tyler and his fiancée Adriana Kammerer; and Parker and his partner Valeria Dountcheva. Her surviving great-grandchildren are Genevieve Yvette Schoppe, Brody Stephen Harris, Callie Brooks Pakkala, and Theodore Kurt Harris.
She is also survived by her siblings Frances Vesely; Andrew Kaspar and his wife Delores; Marcus Kaspar and his wife Debbie; Loretta Janda and her husband Iggie; and Daniel Kaspar and his wife Alice; as well as her sister-in-law Georgie Kaspar.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws Daniel Cresent and Julia Albina Schoppe; her brother-in-law Sherwin C. Schoppe; her stillborn son John Joseph; her brother Anton "Tony" Kaspar; her sister Theresa Joann Everett; and her brother-in-laws Henry Vesely and Bill Everett.
Agnes will be dearly missed here on earth as she reunites with her family and friends in the paradise of heaven.
