Ada Marian (Buell) Starrett was born May 23, 1928, in Roanoke, Texas to parents Edwin Clyde Buell and Annabel Garvin. Ada was a longtime resident of Arlington, Texas, spending the last 3 years of her life in Sherman to be near her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She passed away peacefully on November 14, 2023.
Ada graduated from Roanoke High School and attended the University of North Texas. She completed her RN training at The Methodist Hospital, Dallas, Texas. After becoming an RN, she moved to Sulphur Springs, Texas where she worked as a hospital nurse. It was there that she met her husband, James E. Starrett.
After moving to Arlington in 1956, she began her career as a school nurse for Arlington Independent School District and remained there until retirement. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Arlington where she taught Sunday School for many years. Additionally, she was active with Arlington Women’s Club and Arlington Cancer Center. Ada was very creative in the homemaking arts, excelling at cooking, baking, gardening, sewing, and painting. She made a wonderful, loving home for her family and extended hospitality with many dear friends and family.
Ada was preceded in death by her husband, James, and son, Steve. Those surviving her are her daughter Laura Bogard; granddaughter Blair Kveton and husband Craig, their children Van and Olivia; grandson Jesse Starrett and fiancé Brooke Davenport, their children Rose, River, and Sonne; grandson Dalton Starrett; and many loving nieces and nephews and their children.
Ada was determined to live long enough that her grandchildren would have memories of her, and that she did.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 on Wednesday, November 22 at Wade Funeral Home, Arlington, Texas. You are invited to visit with the family before the service at 2:00.
