Abel Hernandez Martinez Sr. , 83, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022 in Arlington, Texas.
Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 11, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2021 New York Ave, Arlington. Interment: 1:15 p.m., Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Monday, October 10, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church, Arlington.
Abel was born on July 8, 1939 in Bronte, Texas to Antonio Martinez and Presiliana Hernandez Martinez. He served in the U.S. Army. Abel married the love of his life, Hortensia Martinez on April 23, 1960. They knew each other from a very young age. He was a construction worker who worked for the AISD in their maintenance department.
Abel was a family man. He loved his brothers and sisters; they were all very close. He dearly loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a man of faith and loved his church and church family.
Abel had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. He loved his mariachi music. Abel was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Texas Longhorns.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Frank Martinez, Sylvester Martinez, Adolfo Martinez and Tony Martinez; daughter, Gloria Martinez; and grandchild, T.J. Martinez.
Survivors: Wife of 62 years, Hortensia Martinez; sons, Anthony Martinez and wife, Cathy, Abel Martinez Jr., and Jonathan Martinez and wife, Christine; daughter, Amanda Martinez Smen and husband, Jason; brothers, Alfred Martinez and wife, Dawn, Alvaro Martinez and wife, Josie, Adam Martinez and wife, Becky, Art Martinez, Louis Martinez; sisters, Josie Robinson and husband, David, and Adel Gomez; grandchildren, Stacie, Brittany, Aarika, Alexis, Analisa; and great-grandchildren, Adriana, Miranda, Harley, Wyatt, Gracie, Olivia and Woods.
