ARLINGTON -- William Arthur Phipps, 92, passed away Friday, July 27, 2012, in Irving. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Wade Family Funeral Home Chapel, 4140 W. Pioneer Pkwy., Arlington. Memorials: Avalon Residential Care Homes, 1625 N. Stemmons Fwy., Dallas 75207. William was born Jan. 15, 1920, in Lynn, Mass., to Thomas and Margaret Phipps. William was a pitcher for the St. Louis Browns, and later was postmaster at the Italian prisoner of war camp while serving in the U.S. Army. William was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, and was proud to have received his 65-year certificate. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mozell Phipps, two sisters and a brother. Survivors: Daughters, Sylvia Rupert and husband, Doug, and Margaret Crayton and husband, Jeff; two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.
