ARLINGTON -- Violet Imogene Longgrear, 90, passed away Friday, May 8, 2015, in Arlington. Celebration of life: Will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Grace Street Fellowship Church, 1516 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, with Joe Atkinson, Dr. Jim Burgin and Tillie Burgin officiating. Private interment: Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Memorials: Memorial gifts may be made to Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex,; The Prayer Room,; or Joe Atkinson Imperial Ent/International Ministries, Imogene was born May 11, 1924, in Naylor, Mo., to Raymond B. McCord and Violet Plunk McCord. After her mother died in childbirth, her father married Ruby Varner McCord, who raised her as her own. She received her master's degree at Murray State University in education. She resided in Arlington for 54 years beginning in 1961, and was active at Mission Arlington. Imogene retired as a teacher with the Arlington Independent School District. She was named Teacher of the Year in 1978-1979 at Duff Elementary and again at Miller Elementary in 1981-1982. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Geneva Chapman in 1990. Survivors: Husband, sweetheart and friend of over 75 years, Jack R. Longgrear; sons, John McCord Longgrear and wife, Rhonda, and Richard Stephen Longgrear and wife, Denise; daughter, Jean Ann Stokes and husband, Rodney, all of Arlington; sisters, Evelyn Reeves Bailey of Russellville, Ala., Carolyn Shelton of St. Charles, Mo., and Gloria Wilson of Jacksonville, Mo.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
