Born June 27, 1933, in Berlin, Germany, her early education was interrupted at the outset of WWII as the bombing raids intensified in Berlin. She, her mother and brother were evacuated to her grandmothers in Stroebel, Silesia. In addition to her work she volunteered at local hospitals while raising two wonderful children, Stephan Knackstedt of Punta Gorda, Florida and Gabriela Krumm of Burleson, Texas.

She was totally dedicated to Adolf and her children, whom she loved dearly. Throughout her life, Vera was outgoing, lovable, accepted by everyone who was fortunate to know her. Not only was she a dedicated Army wife who supported not only Adolf, but many military wives having to deal with their husband’s deployment to S. Korea and Vietnam.
