GRAND PRAIRIE -- Thomas Emory "Tom" Whetstone, 65, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, in Arlington.
Graveside service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Lane C.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Child Fund International at childfund.org.
Tom was born Aug. 23, 1948, in Houston to Harry Raymond and Alma Constance Whetstone. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1974 as a Marine mechanic third class. Tom worked as a patrolman with the Grand Prairie Police Department beginning in 1978 and retired in 2001.
Survivors: Wife, Mary; sons, Erik and wife, Tracie, and Bradley; daughter, Patricia; grandson, Ryan; sisters, Harriet and Tina; brother, Raymond; nieces; and a nephew.

I am thankful Tom was my Uncle. He was a larger than life person to me who was brave, caring, funny and a great story teller. I knew I could always trust him and could count on him to be straight-forward with me and to listen. I will miss his bbq, his voice and most of all his smile!
