My late husband, Jim, and Stephen shared a common goal in our neighborhood – that of keeping the kids off the lawn. We moved into Stephen’s neighborhood in 1997 just a couple of doors down when my daughter was just 14 months old. I remember when we were trying to teach her to ride her first bike with training wheels, we would turn around in the driveway of the Geronimo’s to return home each time and Stephen would come outside and just watch us from the sidewalk in front of their house.
The last time I saw Stephen, he had a suitcase in his hand and was getting into a car being driven away by a younger man, who I later learned to be his son.
I won’t soon forget my neighbor Stephen and his wife and will try to be more mindful of getting to know my neighbors a little better for now on.
