Born in: Marshall, TX
Resided in: Grand Prairie, TX

On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, Sandra Shumaker, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away at the age of 72.

Sandra was born on August 30, 1950 in Marshall, Texas to John Wesley and Jessie Lee Strickland. After graduating from Lincoln High School in Dallas, Texas in 1968, she obtained her histology license from Methodist Hospital of Dallas School of Medical Technology in 1971.

Sandra later moved to El Paso, Texas for work where she met Stanley Shumaker, the love of her life and they married after a 2-year courtship. They moved to West Texas and spent 43 years together. After more than 40 years working in the medical profession, Sandra retired and moved to Grand Prairie where she lived until her death.

Sandra loved nature and she especially loved cooking and caring for her family. Her life was marked by humility, hospitality, and most of all loving-kindness. She extended hospitality to all she knew.

Most important, Sandra’s first love was Jesus. She served faithfully in children’s ministry at every church she attended. She also served in women’s ministry through her church and Bible Study Fellowship, encouraging other women in their walk with Christ. Whether she was on a mountaintop or facing a trial, Sandra shared Jesus with all who would listen.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents John Wesley and Jessie Lee Strickland, brother Paul, and sister Irene.

Sandra is survived by her loving husband Stanley, daughters: Candy and Shandy, grandson: Braunshay and his wife Latoya, ten siblings: Doris, Faye, Bobbie, Kathryn, Janice, Clyde, Claude, Charles, Joyce (Joy), and Patricia (Patti), and a vast family lineage including several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
