ARLINGTON -- Robert (Bob) John Nordgaard, 78, passed away on September 27, 2013, at home with family present in Arlington. Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mayfield Road Baptist Church, 1701 E Mayfield Rd., Arlington with Rev. Bobby Bridges officiating. Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Wade Family Funeral Home, Arlington. Interment: 2:30 p.m. in Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas; Lane C. Memorials: Mayfield Road Baptist Church Building Fund, "God is Able" Bob was born on October 30, 1934 in Middle River, Minnesota to Maurice Nordgaard and Josephine (Tuura) Nordgaard. Bob was raised and educated in Hastings, North Dakota graduating from Hastings High school in 1952. He went to college in Valley City, North Dakota and he taught 5th & 6th grade in Valley City after college. He joined the Air Force in November 1956 and was honorably discharged in September 1960. Bob married Carol Ann (Sawyer) Nordgaard on July 2, 1960 in Tucson, AZ. They moved to Texas in 1963 and then to Arlington in 1969. He was a carpenter for Art Specialties and then started his own business, C & N Construction, with his longtime friend and coworker, John Cornelison. He retired in 1996. Bob was a longtime member of Mayfield Road Baptist Church in Arlington, TX. He served on the properties committee at church. He often volunteered to do various construction projects for the church. He enjoyed visiting the nursing home and delivering copies of the church worship services to the homebound. He loved furniture refinishing, woodworking and making wood crafts for family and friends. Bob also enjoyed playing cards with the Whist club and beating all his family members at Cribbage. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Nordgaard and Josephine Nordgaard and his brother, Lowell Nordgaard. Survivors: Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol Nordgaard, of Arlington, TX; daughter and son in law, Cindy and Tim Cooley of Toledo, OH, son and daughter in law, Andy and Rachel Nordgaard, of Richmond, VA, daughter and son in law, Mindy and Alan Pittman of Arlington, TX; sisters and brothers in law, Jeanie and Walt Werre of Bismarck, ND and Judy and Adrian Golberg of Cottonwood, MN and sister in law, Doris Nordgaard of Bismarck, ND. Bob was extremely proud of his eight grandchildren, Sam Stedman of Hurst, TX, Jon Cooley of Toledo, OH, William Nordgaard of Richmond, VA, Matthew Cooley of Toledo, OH, Corinne Stedman of Arlington, TX, Robert Nordgaard of Richmond, VA, Haley Nordgaard of Richmond, VA and Janie Nordgaard of Richmond, VA.   1. My only regret is that I never got the chance to say goodbye. Bob was a fine man and great Father-in-Law. He was loving, kind and generous. He was the best Grandfather to both my children. Even after Mindy and I separated, I would see Bob at church each week and he never treated me any different, it made my lonliness at that time bearable. I was privileged to know him and will miss him. God bless Bob and the family.
