Born in:
Port Arthur, Texas
Resided in:
Midlothian, Texas
Marilyn Vinson, 95, of Mansfield, TX entered into God’s kingdom on March 23, 2023. She was born August 27, 1927, in Port Arthur, TX. She was one of five children born to Cregg and Elma Nolen.
Marilyn graduated in 1944 from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur. She accepted Jesus as her savior at a very young age and walked faithfully with Him throughout her life until the end where she was welcomed home to His glorious kingdom.
Marilyn was married on June 7, 1947, to William H Vinson in Port Arthur. She remained married to him for 63 years until his death in 2011. Throughout her life she filled many roles as a minister’s wife, Navy Chaplain’s wife, den mother, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was known as Mema. She served many years as a Red Cross volunteer and enjoyed helping others. Marilyn had many “friends” in the community at the grocery store, pharmacy, bank, and the local fast-food stores. She was always so happy to introduce her family to all her friends as we went places with her.
She always had a kind and loving word for everyone she met and would always have a compliment ready to cheer others up. Whether it was a waitress, caretaker, handyman at the house, or a close friend she would always talk about how lovely their hair, clothes, or nails were. Even up until the end when she was being transported to hospice, she was telling the ambulance driver how handsome he was and inviting him to dinner. She had an entertaining and quick wit that kept us all laughing, and she was so proud that she still had her teeth at age 95.
Marilyn will be missed by all the people that had the privilege of crossing paths with her. She is survived by three sons, Ronald, Paul, and Greg, as well as two daughters, Gretchen and Bridget. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
