Lester Lee Foster, a loving husband, father, grandfather, was born on December 2, 1943, in Vernon, Texas, to Matthew and Juanita Foster.

After graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in Wichita Falls, Texas, in 1962, Lester joined the Army and served for 20 years and retired as a Staff Sergeant. During his service, he was stationed in several places, including Colorado, Japan (Mainland and the island of Okinawa), California, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Germany and Washington. On November 10, 1965, Lester married Catherine King in Denver, Colorado. Together, they had a daughter, Amy Denise, born, in 1976.

In 1983, Lester retired from the Army. After retiring from the Army, he and his family relocated to his home state of Texas. Lester began working at the Main United States Post office in Arlington, Texas. He remained at the Post Office until his retirement in 2000.

Throughout his life, Lester had many interests and hobbies. Fishing, rifle/pistol target shooting, and photography were among his favorites. He loved being outdoors, especially around water. Lester also enjoyed watching westerns and science fiction. Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Star Trek and Dr. Who were his favorites. Lester was also a huge music enthusiast and would often spend hours listening to his favorite albums.

On Sunday, February 4, 2024, Lester passed away peacefully in the hospital at the age of 80, after a prolonged illness. His wife, Catherine, was by his side. Lester was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Catherine and their daughters Amy Kang’oroti (husband Zachary) and Cheryl Brumsey (husband Dolvine); grandchildren, James Matthew Mbugua Kang’oroti and Catherine Njeri Kang’oroti; brother Allen Foster, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents Juanita and Matthew Foster and brothers Joe Louis Williams Sr., Edward Ray Foster, and Frank Fullbright.

Lester was a kind, generous, and loving man who will be missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
