Lawrence Dale Odom, beloved husband, father, and Papa, peacefully passed away on June 26, 2024.

Lawrence was born on October 31, 1934, in Sanger, Texas, to Luther Taylor and Dosha Vaughn Odom and raised by his step-mother, Ollie Tyler. Lawrence graduated from Sanger High School in 1953 and proudly served his country in the United States Army for four years before beginning a career at General Motors, where he dedicated 30 years of service and retired as a foreman.

On June 14, 1963, Lawrence married the love of his life, Mary Nan Manry, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage until her passing. Together, they raised three children, Lisa Michele, Lawrence “Scott”, and John “Kevin”. Lawrence and Mary loved spending time with their children in each of their own passions: showing Keeshond dogs with Lisa; coaching and watching Scott play soccer, and riding trains with Kevin.

A man of deep faith, Lawrence committed his life to Christ and was an active member of Epworth United Methodist Church since 1963. His faith guided him in founding and supporting various charitable initiatives, including the nonprofit organization “Advocates for Special People,” dedicated to assisting adults with special needs. Lawrence’s selfless dedication to others earned him numerous accolades, including the Tarrant County Man of the Year Award, reflecting his profound impact on the community he cherished.

In addition to his professional and charitable endeavors, Lawrence pursued several hobbies with passion, including portrait and wedding photography, and woodworking with his brother, Loy.

Known for his generous, warm personality, Lawrence had a gift for sharing his faith and bringing smiles to those around him. He treasured time spent joking with family and church friends, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and love.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Nan, and their son, John Kevin Odom and five of his six siblings: John Taylor, Oleta Ruth, Charles Franklin, Dorothy Dean, and Loy Vaughn.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara Ann Feind (Larry); daughter, Lisa Michele Phillips (David); his son, Lawrence Scott Odom (Lisa); his grandchildren, Rebecca (Kevin), Kayce (Alex), Garrett, and Ashley.

Lawrence Dale Odom’s legacy of kindness, compassion, and dedication to others will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever be cherished in our hearts.

Visitation will be held on July 9, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington. Lawrence will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery alongside Mary and Kevin in a private family ceremony at a later date.

Memories Timeline

  1. Mary, Lawrence and Kevin were very special friends from 1977 when Kevin and Kayle started to South Davis school together in the first federally mandated class for children with developmentally delayes. The boys attended school together for the next 19 years .Lawrence and Mary were inspirations and mentors to hundreds of families with children who were affected by IDD . They were special people and the family will all now be greatly missed, even though we are so thankful they are together again.
