As a child she loved having fun in the California sun hanging out with friends and family as well as participating in talent shows.

In the summer of 1977, she met the love of her life Troy Smith and never left his side until her passing on June 7th 2024. Kim and Troy were married on December 24th 1981, to that union came two sons, Marcus and Ryan and a beautiful grand daughter Abby K. Smith. Kimberly attended San Bernadino Valley College where she earned a degree in Library Technology. She later attended Azusa Pacific University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Development.

Kimberly traveled around the world with her husband during his 20 year career in the United States Army. During that time, she worked for the US Government in the Military Post Library and also for the Department of Veteran Affairs. Kimberly enjoyed acting in plays and wrote numerous plays herself. Kimberly leaves behind to cherish her memory: her Husband Troy L. Smith; her two sons Marcus and Ryan Smith; her beautiful grand daughter Abby K. Smith; her Mother Rosie Banks; her brothers Van Banks III (wife Vita), Valadde Banks, Robin Banks and Steven Wilson; her sisters Rochelle Smith (husband James) and Diedre Tucker and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
