Katie was born on July 1, 1947 in Dyersburg, Tennessee to Hurbert Wilford Jones and Zeddie Mae Williams Jones.
Katie attended Dobbins Grove Elemantary and Bruce High School.
Katie loved animals and enjoyed bowling, reading, playing solitaire, watching her favorite shows on T.V. which included Life Time Network, Family Feud, as well as martial arts and action movies. While attending Bruce high school, she played softball, was a member of the Year Book Club and the Marching band, where she played numerous instruments.
Katie moved to Flint, Michigan in 1965 where she worked as a telephone operator and a cashier at the Pierson Road Party store. In 1973, she began working at the Chevrolet Plant. She continued her work at AC Spark Plug and retired in 2004 after 30 years of service. Katie was active in the church where she served on the usher board at Saint James Methodist Church in Flint, MI. She later joined Golden Leaf Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev Frederick Flowers. Katie moved to Arlington, Texas in 2004 and shortly after became a member of Koinonia Christian Church and was also a Greeter {First Impression} under the Leadership of Dr. Ronnie Goines. Katie also volunteered with Make A Wish as a Wish Granter from 2008-2011.
Preceded in death by her parents Hurbert and Zeddie Mae Jones, Aaron Lindley, 2 sisters Lizzie Light and Ruby Jean Starks, and 6 brothers James H. Jones, Calvin Jones, Timothy Jones, James Overton, Harry Overton, and Lee Franklin Jones.
Katie leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted daughters: Dedra Burnom and MeloNeisha Burnom both of Arlington, Texas, 3 grandchildren Shantoria Burnom, Tiffany Lynch, and Stephon Burnom of Arlington, Texas, her extended family which included daughter Carmen McNeal of California, sons Reese (Beth) Lindley of Flint, Michigan, Oz (Danine) Lindley of Atlanta, Gorgia, James Lindley of Nashville, Tennessee, and grand-children Delewis Marks, Yavonna Lindley, Aaron Lindley II, Sarah Lindley, Joseph Lindley, Braxton Lindley, and Ashton Lindley. Siblings: Eulalia Rushing of Flint, Michigan, Carolyn (Robert) Hunt of Cheltenham, Maryland, William Jones of Nashville, Tennessee, Linda (Barnett) Agnew of Dyersburg, Tennessee, and Brenda Jones of Flint, Michigan. Ex-Husband Earvin (Maelene) Burnom of Grand Blanc, Michigan, extended family Lee, Martha, and Francisco Henderson of Alvarado, Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
As a family we would like to thank Mansfield Methodist Hospital ICU medical team, Dr. Dhillion and the staff with Texas Oncology and the DFW Home Health for providing wonderful health care services and support when mom needed it the most.

  5. To the fam: much love and bringing positive greetings on Katie Joyce’s Spiritual Risings to be with her Ancestors. Cuz was always happy and I never seen her in a bad mood. She kept me laughing bcuz she knew how to work that tongue.

    She still looked good and that smile is like a magnet; it will draw you in like a vacuum cleaner. I know Katie Joyce would want us to Remember her in LOVE, LAUGHTER & LIFE

    She may be gone in the flesh, but her beautiful Spirit will be here forever. A true Righteous Spirit never dies.
