John Douglas, 77, passed away on July 15, 2023 at home in Fort Worth, Tx, due to the effects of Agent Orange.
John was born on February 20, 1946 in Long Beach, CA to Paul and Goldie Douglas. After his dad’s service in the Navy, they moved back to Enid, OK where John spent his school years and graduated from Enid High School in 1964.
John served his country from June 1968 through January 1970 with honor and distinction. He joined F Company, 52nd Infantry Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) in Lai Khe (Rocket City), Vietnam and was later wounded on December 31,1968 during a recon mission. After being in the hospital and rehab for four months he returned to his unit, now I Company, 75th Infantry RANGERS. John was awarded a Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB), National Defense Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, he moved to Texas.
John and Debby were married on April 17, 1987. Their blended family includes five children – daughter Natalie Douglas Wilkinson (Jody), son Jeff Hassell (Mayra), son David Hassell (Misty), daughter Andi Hassell Hemphill (Jason), and son Robby Hassell (Sarah).
John was an avid athlete and excelled in every sport he participated in. He loved traveling, playing golf, racquetball, tennis, weight lifting, hiking, being at the lake house, playing pool and darts, running and completed many marathons and other races. His favorite thing in the world was being with Debby and the family.
John is survived by Debby, their children and 17 grandchildren. Brant, Jordan, Sarah, Ryan, Dan, Dawson, Joel, Cooper, Libbie, Cambell, Dylan, Austin, Dain, Kennedy, Darren, Tyler, and Sadie. John is also survived by two beautiful great-granddaughters, Nova and Emery….as well as cousins and extended family.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Goldie Douglas.
