Jerry L. Rodnitzky

Dr. Jerry Rodnitzky, 83, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2020 in Arlington. Services will be held at a later date. Jerry was born on August 1, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois to Nathan Rodnitzky and Ann Ornstein Rodnitzky. He served at the University of Texas at Arlington since 1966. During his 50+ years at the university he taught a full spectrum of undergraduate and graduate courses. He was a member of the first Women's Studies Committee in the 1970's, the first Director of Teaching of Women's Studies, and taught the first “History of American Women” course. He won several teaching awards including the Gertrude Golladay Award (1989), the Outstanding Teacher Award from FLOC (2008,2009, 2011), the Faculty Loyalty Award from AD (2004), and the Faculty Big Kahuna Award (1999). He has served in the Department of History, on department committees, and the Faculty Senate. Dr. Rodnitzky has published four books and a plethora of book chapters and articles in peer reviewed journals. He was a stalwart for the Department of History and he helped establish and make the department one of the largest and strongest in the College of Liberal Arts. His record of teaching, scholarship and service for his 50+ years at the University of Texas at Arlington were distinguished and honorable. Jerry is remembered for his love of family, kind, sweet nature, and quick wit. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Marie Reiger Rodnitzky; son, Mark Rodnitzky and wife, Shanna; daughter, Joan Anderson and husband, James; brother, Dr. Robert Rodnitzky, M.D. and wife, Donna; grandchildren, John, Macy, and Matthew Rodnitzky, and Jack and Jake Anderson.
