Jacqueline Briggs

June 2, 1934 — March 3, 2021

Jacqueline “Jackie” Ishee Briggs, 86, passed peacefully into the loving arms of God on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. Jackie was born on June 2,1934, in Springer, Mississippi, to Maudie Blackwell and William Ishee. Her family moved many times in her early childhood taking them to Alabama, Florida and eventually back to Mississippi. Her father moved to Houston, Texas, when Jackie was seven years old where she and Jerry, her sister, spent their summers. One summer as a teenager in Houston, she met the love of her life, James “Jim” Briggs while she was working as a soda jerk. Jackie and Jim were married on August 14, 1952, at the Magnolia Park Baptist Church in Houston at the age of 18. After several years of moving around, they settled in Arlington, Texas. Jackie and Jim were married for 61 years before beloved Jim passed away, and had two children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jackie was a proud and hard-working woman. She loved to work in her “flower beds,” watercolor, play the piano, dance, sew clothes and took great pride in fashion. Showcasing her love of fashion trends, tireless determination and business entrepreneurship, Jackie's Casuals, a popular store for high fashion, opened in the 1970s. She dressed many Arlington women at the time, and loved to share her fashion expertise. The business was a success, and Jackie opened two more stores in the Arlington and Mansfield area. She continued to showcase her love of fashion throughout her life. After retirement, she enjoyed playing bridge with her many friends, traveling and going to church. Above all else, Jackie loved her family and friends. She loved to cook and host fun gatherings for holidays, birthdays and other occasions. Jackie loved with all her heart and will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She was the matriarch of the close-knit Briggs family and will not be forgotten. Memories of the Briggs Legacy are represented in each and every family members' own spirit. Jackie is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim, and sister, Jerry Ezell. To cherish her loving memory she leaves her children, son James Briggs, Jr., wife Glenda; daughter Patricia Dillehay, husband Cliff; her four grandchildren, Jason Briggs, wife Kat; Brittany Lee, husband Tony; Andrew Filewood, wife Holly; Vanessa Wright, husband Noel; her two great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Max Lee, numerous siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. A come-and-go visitation will be held on Thursday, March 11, from 6-8 p.m. at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas. Graveside service will be on Friday, March 12, at 12 p.m. at Moore Cemetery in Arlington, Texas.
